Self assembly utilizes the power of nature to create the ordered structures. Due to its fast speed and low cost in fabrication, self assembly draws much interest and show great potential in applications. We have used the long range interaction through the surface state to create qusai hexagonal superlattice of Fe atoms on flat Cu(111) surface (Fig.a) and atomic strings on vicinal surfaces. (Fig. b). Our plan is to search more pathways for self assembly, understand the underlying formation mechanism and explore the novel properties of the created systems.
